Moss spotted a sunny patch in the garden. He looked at the yellow seed balanced on his front foot, then at the warm soil. “This is the right place,” he decided.

Moss took slow steps across the soil, keeping the yellow seed safe in his front foot. He reached the middle of the sunny patch and stopped. Now he could plant it.

Moss looked down at the smooth soil. “The seed needs a little hole,” he said. He held it ready, then paused to think about how to make one.

A sparrow landed beside Moss. It looked from him to the seed, then to the smooth soil. “Do you need help?” it chirped. Moss smiled. “Yes, please!”

The sparrow scratched at the soil with both feet. A little dent began to form. Moss held the yellow seed ready and watched. “That’s just right,” he said.

Sparrow scratched a little more, and the hole was ready. Moss leaned close to inspect it, holding the yellow seed in his front foot. “Just the right size,” he said.

Moss lowered the yellow seed into the hole with his front foot. Sparrow watched closely. The seed slipped into the dark soil, ready to begin growing.

Moss gently patted soft soil over the seed with his front foot. A small mound formed. Sparrow leaned in to watch. “Now it’s tucked in,” Moss said.

Moss brought over the watering can and tipped it above the mound. A gentle stream fell onto the soil. Sparrow watched the water soak in. “That should help,” Moss said.

Moss sat beside the damp mound. Sparrow perched close. “Will it grow soon?” Sparrow chirped. “Let’s wait together,” said Moss. They watched the soil for something green.

A tiny green tip pushed through the damp soil. Moss leaned close, and Sparrow hopped nearer. “Look!” they cried together. The seed had begun to grow.

Moss lifted both front feet in a joyful cheer. Sparrow fluttered above the soil. “We planted it together!” said Moss. Their little garden had begun.
