Adam marched in a line. An ant in front, an ant behind.

He asked his Dad why this always was? Dad smiled and said “just because.” His days were nice, but much the same. Slow they come and fast they came.

Marching, marching, in a line. Every day, all the time.

As Adam’s worldly ambitions grew, he left the line for something new.

It was hard to leave those he adored, but wonder has to be explored. His Mom was sad, but not surprised. She’d seen the sparkle in his eye.

He met a butterfly that night, with wings that shimmered in the light. "Hello," she said, "What brings you here? Sleep under my wing. Not to fear.”

Adam found a leaf so green, and sailed down a sparkling stream.

He climbed atop the tallest tree to see above the canopy.

He hitched a ride with a flying squirrel. Down the canopy they twirled.

He met a friendly Frog at night, who’s eyes glistened in the light. “What are you doing here all alone?” The Frog asked with a quizzical tone. “I was marching in a line, every day all the time. There’s so much in the world to see, I had to leave, I had to flee.”

"When I was just as young as you, I traveled to lands I never knew." "But now you’re here, back at home?" Adam asked with a curious tone. “It's where my heart feels most at ease, beneath the trees and gentle breeze.”

Adam had traveled far and wide but now the sparkle in his eyes shined for those he missed back home; his mom, his Dad, and his little bro.

With stories from his daring quest, Adam returned back to his nest. “The frog leaped from stone to stone, in his pond that he called home. The squirrel flew from tree to tree, twirling through the canopy. The butterfly had wings so bright that they glistened in the light. For me all of this was new, for them it was just what they do.”

Mom hugged him with all six legs, as her worries washed away.

Adam got right back in line, an ant in front an ant behind. He marched along but now he knew, that marching is what he was meant to do.
